About Dr. Fred Simonton
Dr. Fred Simonton is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon and TMJ specialist at Gainesville Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. For over 20 years, he has provided outstanding care to patients in need of orthognathic procedures, wisdom teeth removals, dental implant surgeries, TMJ treatments, and more.
Dr. Simonton is a Georgia native — born in Fort Oglethorpe — and throughout his career, he has been a valuable member of Georgia’s medical and dental communities. He has served as an adjunct assistant professor of surgery at Emory University School of Medicine. This academic experience exposed him to many challenging conditions and cases. The skills he mastered throughout his career have served him well in his private practice, where he treats patients with advanced and reliable surgical techniques. In addition to his private work, he also has staff appointments at Gainesville Surgery Center and Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Dr. Simonton enjoys helping patients in any way he can, and he treats each patient with the individual attention they deserve.
Dr. Simonton completed his undergraduate degree in zoology at the University of Georgia before going on to dental school. He attended Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, where he graduated as vice president of his class in 1984. He then decided to expand his skillset by becoming an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, enabling him to treat a wider variety of conditions and challenges.
To become an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Simonton underwent a rigorous residency program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. This residency gave him years of hands-on surgical and anesthesia experience working with real patients. Today he practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, from dental implants and wisdom teeth to TMJ disorders and more.
When he is not working, Dr. Simonton enjoys spending time outdoors. He loves hunting, fishing, wildlife management, and scuba diving.
